Your little guy seemed a bit congested when he woke up. He had a slight fever, so you decided to stay home from work. By mid-morning, he was worse, and you took him to the pediatrician. She took one look at him and sent you immediately to the Emergency department.”I don’t like what I’m seeing,” she told you.  The next week was simply a nightmare…. a diagnosis of pneumonia and immediate admission to the ICU.  You couldn’t eat, sleep or work. The fear was crippling.

That was two weeks ago… he’s back home and should be returning to daycare next week.  As you reflect on those tense days, it’s not lost on you that our healthcare system works. And for all of that care, you paid nothing…  intensive care, medications… nothing.  But of course, it’s not free.

Today, as our healthcare system continues to tighten and refine care delivery, effectively managing resources becomes even more critical. Knowing exactly where you are at all times in terms of financial reporting, is simply, imperative. So, they’re upping the game as they search for a Corporate Controller to join the team.

Reporting to a passionate and accomplished VP Finance, this role will oversee all finance and accounting for the organization, including financial reporting (both internal and external Ministry reporting according to PSAS), general accounting, accounts payable and treasury. The role is both broad and diverse, leading a team of both designated and non-designated finance professionals.

What are the skills critical to success in the role…

  • previous healthcare or hospital work experience
  • strong working knowledge of case costing, funding formulas and MIS guidelines
  • superior technical accounting skills
  • exemplary organizational, leadership and communication skills
  • SAP/Oracle experience is desirable


As the key Finance “go to” person, the Corporate Controller should be embedded in the business of the hospital, so a strong desire to make a difference and curiosity for the industry will be critical to success. The successful candidate will excel in a hands-on role within a fast paced, complex and very results-driven environment. The ability to easily establish relationships in a world of accomplished and diverse players is an essential skill.
