It’s the classic entrepreneurial story of small beginnings growing into a thriving business empire. Through careful management, strong business acumen, and a focus on employee and customer satisfaction what began decades ago has grown into an interconnected network of companies still primarily family-owned.

To diversify their wealth through strategic investments, the families of the original founders have created a Family Office. The Director of Finance will be a new addition to a very small team who provide the oversight and management expertise on a broad array of personal, career, philanthropic, investment, and business opportunities.

Working closely with an accomplished CFO, the Director of Finance will be responsible not only for day-to-day accounting and reporting, but will be part of building a strong foundation for the Family Office. Exposure to business, investment and strategic matters, enhancing relationships across functions, and building a first-class reporting and accounting infrastructure round out this interesting and vital role.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Accounting and reporting for holding companies, some of the operating companies, with the possibility of providing those services for individual family members or groups of family members
  • Incorporation of subsidiary or investee results in holding companies
  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Regulatory filings, including HST and income tax
  • Creation of investment and real estate reports
  • Systems implementation and management

Other essentials include a CPA, CA with at least 7 years of post-designation experience, a strong understanding of IT systems, diverse company and/or experience working with entrepreneurs and privately-owned companies, and a solid understanding of income tax, or the interest in expanding tax knowledge.
