As with many family businesses our client is strongly focused on their product, their customers and their employees. It’s this mindset, along with keeping an eye on the bottom line, that has led to their longevity and continued success, as well as to their desire to continuously evolve and thrive.

Since 1945, they’ve built their reputation on providing customers with a comprehensive offering of skilled metalworking as well as in-house engineering and design capabilities. They work hard and take pride in maintaining the highest standards in their production and management systems. Finding people with core values of integrity, innovation, responsiveness and accountability is key to their success. For their team, manufacturing is about attention to detail, knowledge and consistency.

Reporting directly to the Vice President, the Director of Finance will be responsible for all financial reporting, internal controls, treasury management and cost accounting, as well as providing strategic finance and business advice to the owners. This position will also require significant leadership and change capacity, as the Director of Finance will have managerial responsibility over multiple direct reports and will be looked upon to provide cross functional leadership through business growth.

Key skills, knowledge and experience essential to success include:

  • Product cost accounting (standard cost system) and in plant accounting/finance systems
  • Exceptional analytical abilities and understanding of accounting and finance issues in a manufacturing environment
  • Preparation of sales tax returns as well as treasury/FX management (including but not limited to hedging)
  • Exceptional analytical abilities and understanding of accounting and finance issues in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections
  • Short and long-term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and profitability and variance analysis
  • Presenting to upper management with confidence and precision
  • Building and managing an effective team

The ideal candidate is a proactive, hands-on strategic thinker with solid problem-solving skills and the ability to engage in strategic data interpretation vs. simple reporting. Results oriented, they will also be receptive to change with a continuous improvement mindset. Strong communication skills and practices, ensuring management and their team are kept in the loop and consulted as needed are also essential.

If you are a CPA with 7 – 10 years of post-designation experience, a self-starter with a strategic mindset, and a desire to take your career to the next level while playing a integral  role in the further development of a medium -sized, family-run manufacturer this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
